A Few Words From Fr Joe……
Some say that the best place to celebrate St Patrick’s Day is anywhere in the world, other than Ireland! This really isn’t entirely fair, there are lots of positive dimensions to the local celebrations here on the island of Ireland, Masses, parades, cultural events, a break from work and school, and a relaxing day for one and all. However, the quip about it being better overseas tells a truth too, it seems our Irish culture and identity comes to the surface among the diaspora and those who are associated with our nation overseas. Of course, there is a bit of distortion, too much emphasis on the colour green, the drink and fairy tales, but it is undeniable that the Irish are known, and mostly liked all over the world. We are perhaps a more nomadic nation than we realise and with the combination of economic migration, church mission and the search for adventure, so many have left these shores and found a new home elsewhere. In the modern world, successive Irish governments have built on this establishing diplomatic, economic and cultural links with an amazing number of nations.
In the past, it was said of the Irish emigrants that they brought a great love of family, an ethic of hard work and a deep faith. With these characteristics, it is little wonder that our forbearers settled into their new communities so well, contributed much and prospered. Mostly those early migrants were remitting money home, sending tickets for others to join them and contributing to both economies. Perhaps the young Irish who leave today, heading off down under, to the Middle East, or even to America and the UK bring more education and professional competency that of old, but I’m sure they still want to be connected to home and ultimately to return.
This weekend we think of them all, those from times past and those escaping from a housing crisis and seeking opportunity and adventure elsewhere. May their love of family, work ethic and deep faith continue to support their endeavours, keep them safe and remind them of home. May God and St Patrick watch over them all.

Calling All Web & Graphic Designers – Help Shape ‘CKMM-Trinity of Faith’!
As mentioned last week, the parishes of Kilmacud, Mount Merrion, and Clonskeagh are cementing their new partnership with a common name: CKMM-Trinity of Faith (current suggestion).
As part of this initiative, we are also developing a shared website and identity that will reflect the unity of our parishes while celebrating each of their unique characteristics.
We are looking for people with experience in web and graphic design who can share their expertise to support this project. If you have skills in website development, branding, or design (or can recommend someone who does) and would like to contribute to this meaningful initiative, we would love to hear from you!
For more information or to indicate if you could lend a hand, please contact Vivienne – parishoffice@mountmerrionparish.ie, Christine at kilmacudparishoffice@gmail.com- or Sylvia at clonskeaghparish@gmail.com who will put you in touch with those involved.
