The Angelus
This is a child page of Pray to Our Lady and Other Prayers
The Angelus is latin for Angel. It is a Christian devotion in memory of the Incarnation. The angel referred to in the prayer is the Angel Gabriel, a messenger of God who revealed to Mary that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God. The Angelus is usually accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell, which is to spread good-will to everyone on Earth.
Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived by the holy Spirit.
Hail Mary...
Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary.
And the Word was made flesh,
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary...
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promise of Christ.
Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into
our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ thy son
was made known by the message of an angel, may be brought,
by his passion and cross, to the glory of his resurrection.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
