Jesus is Condemned to Death

We adore thee O Christ, and we bless you.
Because of your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
"He came to his own home, and his own people received him not." The whole world – a world made up of Christians, Jews and non believers – judges its own Creator and Redeemer. It was a judgement passed on Jesus by a small group among those who had followed him: by Judas who, not finding his Messiah up to his expectations, betrayed him to those who were seeking political power and liberation. Peter denied Jesus while the other disciples fled.
Lord our God, have mercy on us all who have condemned you to death. Your mercy is already manifest in the sublime freedom with which you have borne our ingratitude and rejection.
